The JCHS PTSA is thrilled to announce that we will again be sponsoring three scholarships for JCHS seniors this year! We will continue to provide the JCHS PTSA Laurel Schmitt Service Scholarship (which we have awarded since the year our doors opened), as well as the JCHS PTSA Trailblazer Scholarship and the JCHS PTSA All-Rounder Scholarship. These scholarships are not heavily weighted for academic excellence and students who have a cumulative weighted average of 80% may apply. The three scholarships will be awarded for the following:
JCHS PTSA LAUREL SCHMITT SERVICE SCHOLARSHIP:
This scholarship focuses on community service. The winner(s) of this scholarship will demonstrate service to our school, the greater Atlanta community as well as service done on a national or international level. Seniors who apply will be required to fill out an application and may be asked to provide references. The JCHS PTSA Scholarship committee will evaluate the applications received and choose finalists who will interview with a panel of community members. The winner(s) of this scholarship will be announced at Honors Night in the spring.
JCHS PTSA TRAILBLAZER SCHOLARSHIP:
This scholarship will seek out seniors who have demonstrated extreme depth in one or two activities during their years at JCHS. Students who have embraced their passion and grown with it during high school should apply for this scholarship. Seniors who apply will be required to fill out an application, turn in “verification of involvement” sheets filled out by teachers and/or club sponsors, and answer a short essay question. They may also receive a request to submit a short video. The JCHS Scholarship Committee will select the winner(s) of this scholarship and the winner(s) will be announced at Honors Night in the spring.
JCHS PTSA ALL-ROUNDER SCHOLARSHIP:
This scholarship is directed toward seniors who have been involved in many different clubs, activities, and jobs both inside the walls of JCHS and beyond. The PTSA will recognize students with multiple talents who project “do-it-all” energy. Applicants for this scholarship are encouraged to have continuity in their many activities and show growth within their activities as well as leadership. Seniors who apply for this scholarship will be required to fill out an application and may be asked to provide references. The JCHS Scholarship Committee will select the winner(s) of this scholarship and the winner(s) of this scholarship will be announced at Honors Night in the spring.
All scholarship winners must be attending a college or university in the fall of 2021. Winners of the PTSA scholarships may be asked for verification of college acceptance before receiving their scholarship money.
The PTSA Scholarship Committee will consist of JCHS parents and community members. The only requirement is that committee members do not currently have a senior.
The scholarship applications will be published on the JCHS PTSA Website (jchsptsa.com) applications will be accepted until 10:00 pm on Sunday, February 21, 2021. Any seniors who are interested in PTSA scholarships are encouraged to go to our website once the applications are published and read through the applications for more information and details. All scholarship applicants must be student members of the JCHS PTSA for the current school year and students must have joined PTSA by February 21, 2021, to be eligible
We encourage all seniors to apply!
